Maker's World
Overview
Maker's World is an AD&D campaign setting designed by power gamers for power gamers. It's design is highly modular, allowing each section to behave in completely different ways than any other section. The over all focus is on power, control, and millions of ever deepening schemes. It is a world of extremes where one can indulge in the kinds of excesses that are normally unavailable in the standard campaign settings.
What is Maker's World?
Outside of the normal AD&D multiverse, known to those of Maker's World as the 5th Dominion, exists an artificial world made up of tiny sections of many trillions of other places. It is thought it was originally a collection or zoo for unimaginable powerfull immortal beings, who have long since gone away. It is a place where all things have been crammed together, and all things are possible.
It's basic unit is a land, which takes the form of a triangle 300 miles to a side. Each land is inhabited by the descendants of the population that lived there when the area was stolen, as well as any new settlers or conquerors who have since made it their home. Each land is surrounded by still more lands, each one unique and obeying it's own rules. Hence one land may seem exactly like a part of Toril, but be surrounded by one mimicking Ravenloft, a SpellJammer fire world, and a glacial region.
The borders between lands have a variety of effects: they maintain the natural climate of the land despite it's companions, they preserve the natural and magical laws of a land, and they keep most of the native animals and fish on their own land. Intelligent beings are not affected by this last restriction. Sometimes the contrasts are extreme at the borders, such as a lake simply ending at an invisible wall, the sky being a different color, even the air itself being different from one side to another. One can pass through a border without trouble, feeling only a strong tingle as they pass through. Away from the borders, it's impossible to tell that the land isn't natural, as all visual elements are simulated by the great machinery that keeps Maker's World from dissolving into the Nothing it floats in.
To make things even more interesting, lands do not always stay put. Sometimes they trade places with another land somewhere else in Maker's World. In addition, new lands are sometimes grabbed to add to the collection.
